Conceptional Design
The University of Rostock (UR) and the Helmholtz Zentrum
München – German Research Center for Environmental Health (HMGU) –
contractually agreed on Dec 19th, 2007 to cooperate in the research field
of modern analytical methods. It was a result of the negotiations on the
appointment of Prof. Ralf Zimmermann as the chair for analytical chemistry
at the UR. The analytical methods especially involve mass spectrometry and
ionisation techniques. The name of this cooperation is
Joint Mass Spectrometry Centre (JMSC). Executive facilities
of the JMSC are the chair of analytical chemistry at the UR and the newly-
created cooperation group
"analysis of complex molecular systems" at the HMGU.
Direction
On April 4th, 2008, Prof. Dr. Ralf Zimmermann was
adopted as the head of both, the chair of analytical chemistry at
the UR and the head of the cooperation group
"analysis of complex molecular systems" at the HMGU in personal union.
Consequently, he is also the head of the JMSC.
Cross Linking and Cooperation
Both the JMSC and the chair of technical
chemistry of Prof. Dr. Udo Kragl together form the "analytical mass spectrometry
center" of the mathematical-natural–scientific department (MNF) of the UR.
The JMSC and the analytical mass spectrometry center aim to
set up a network by inter-departmental projects, especially with the medical
department (MEF), the engineering department and the agricultural-environmental
department (AUF). The interdisciplinary structure is emphasized by Prof. Zimmermann’s
membership in the department of life, light and matter in the newly founded
"interdisciplinary department" (INF) of the UR, of which Prof. Kragl is the founding dean.
